Litvar, the American indie-rockers from Willimantic, Connecticut, is formed of lifelong friends Rex Thurstan (he/they), Violet Falkowski (she/they) and Joe Lemieux (he/they).
They have just released their latest single ‘You Should Find A New Boyfriend’, written in an Air BnB in Los Angeles whilst the band were on tour, and complete with a music video by the award-winning film director Alejandro Montoya Marin.
The opening of the track is mellow and unassuming, oozing classic mid 00s indie-pop magic and embracing the more emotional side of the single. It eventually explodes into a powerful, furious and anthemic punk-rock chorus, one that will grip live crowds every time.
The music reflects the band’s deep understanding of the unpredictable nature of anxiety and draws on their personal experience of coming from a small town and flying across the country to play in a big city and retreating to their comfort zone of writing music together when things became overwhelming.
In the words of the band, “Sonically, Boyfriend is us playing with dynamics, exploring our electronic pop influences and satisfying our thirst for huge modern rock choruses. Lyrically, it’s about searching for space while being swallowed by anxiety, using the idea of begging for air in a strangling relationship.”
The single will feature on Litvar’s sophomore album, Eloquently Aimless, which they are gearing up to release in 2023. This upcoming record will be produced by Charles Newman (The Magnetic Fields, The Bones of J.R. Jones).
